Chump Squad is a scrappy, fully remote game development studio founded by industry veteran Gwen Frey. Since its creation in 2018 Chump Squad has operated using the “Hollywood Model” of game development. Each game starts with a small incubation team, and collaborators are brought on as project hires specifically to realize the vision of a single game. This allows Chump Squad to leverage the expertise of specialists during development while maintaining a small core team during a project’s incubation period.

Gwen Frey

Gwen fully owns and operates Chump Squad. At the moment she is the only employee of the studio, which makes writing this bio in third person very uncomfortable for her. Before starting this venture Gwen co-founded indie studio The Molasses Flood where she was the CFO and one of 6 developers on "The Flame in The Flood." Previously, Gwen worked as a senior technical animator on BioShock Infinite, the BioShock Infinite DLCs, and Marvel Heroes Online. She regularly live streams indie game development on Twitch and co-hosts game development podcast "The Dialog Box."


Gwen moonlights as an advisor on WINGS. This is an indie game fund that invests in promising titles spearheaded by women and marginalized folks. Learn more on the official website.
